Community Organizations, Libraries, United Way Awarded $2M By The Indianapolis Foundation

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, awarded more than $2 million in grants and awards to not-for-profits serving Marion County on November 15th, 2011. Included were $500,000 to the United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) Annual Campaign in addition to more than $47,000 to UWCI’s Winter Assistance Fund and United Christmas Service and more than $324,000 to public and school libraries by The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund.

The grants were awarded to 27 organizations (listed below). The Indianapolis Foundation has granted more than $6.4 million in 2011; it has awarded more than $190 million since it began making Community Fund grants in 1924. “In keeping with The Indianapolis Foundation’s longtime mission, these grants are meant to support vital, community-wide human services, which are especially important during this challenging economy,” said Alan Levin, board chair, The Indianapolis Foundation. “And they are also meant to support organizations and activities that create a quality of life and personal development from which we all benefit.”

The grants may be used for operating or program-related expenses, and were awarded to the following organizations:
