Indianapolis Foundation Community Scholarship Fund
(For Marion County)

About the Fund

The Indianapolis Foundation Community Scholarship Fund was established to support students from Marion County pursuing higher education. The fund provides an opportunity to support scholarships at a level of your choice.

The Indianapolis Foundation Community Scholarship program specifically focuses on increasing the on-time post-secondary completion rate of low-income Marion County students. A preliminary report supported by Central Indiana Community Foundation’s (CICF) College Readiness and Success Initiative indicates that less than 20% of students, who graduated from Marion County school district in 2007, completed a post-secondary degree or certificate within nine semesters.

The Indianapolis Foundation Community Scholarship program intentionally connects with CICF’s College Readiness and Success efforts by targeting students who are graduating from Decatur Central High School, Warren Central High School OR participating in a program at one of the following college readiness organizations 1) Center for Leadership Development, 2) College Summit, 3) La Plaza, 4) Starfish Initiative, 5) or Urban Mission Y.

Each of these schools and organizations have partnered with CICF’s College Readiness an d Success Initiative to increase the number of Marion County students who graduate and enroll in post-secondary education. Each partner organization or high school may nominate up to five students to apply for the scholarship. A scholarship selection committee of community leaders reviews the applications and conducts an interview with each nominee. Each recipient will receive a renewable scholarship of up to $5,000 per academic year for four years. The scholarships have the potential to financially support students who may not otherwise pursue higher education due to affordability and are a sign of belief in the students’ ability to succeed.
