About the Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship
Fellowship Overview Now in its 5th year, the Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship was established to increase public awareness of contemporary art in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. The intent of the fellowship is to reward creativity and encourage emerging and established artists by supporting their artistic development. Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowships are made possible by the Efroymson Family Fund, a donor-advised fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation. Monday, August 24, 2009: Application forms available to download at www.cicf.org Friday, October 2, 2009: Central Indiana Community Foundation must receive application material, and digital images and narrative must be uploaded to cicf.slideroom.com by 5:00p.m. If items are mailed, materials must be postmarked by October 2, 2009. October: Selection committee reviews application material and digital images Early November: Recipients notified Mid-November: Public announcement and awards reception for fellowship recipients Award Amounts Five (5) $20,000 fellowship awards will be given to contemporary visual artists who currently reside in Indiana or select counties in Kentucky or Ohio. Eligibility Requirements - Contemporary visual artists age 25 and over
- Must be a resident of Indiana or select counties in Kentucky or Ohio. Documentation proving full-time residency as of September 2008 is required.
- Recipients must reside in Indiana, Ohio or Kentucky during the duration of the one year fellowship
Geographic Eligibility Requirements Applicants must prove that they have resided in one of the following counties since September 2008: Indiana: Any of Indiana’s 92 counties Kentucky (Louisville Metro): Boone, Braken, Bullitt, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Henry, Jefferson, Kenton, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Pendleton, Shelby, Spencer, or Trimble county Ohio (Cincinnati Metro): Brown, Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, or Warren county Applicants must meet all of the basic eligibility criteria at the time the application is due. Recipients of the 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship are not eligible. 2009 Visual Art Categories Eligible artists must work in one or more of the following disciplines: - Painting
- Printmaking
- Sculpture (materials used can include glass, video, metal, wood or textile)
- Installation art (materials used can include glass, video, metal, wood or textile)
- Photography
- New media (computer generated still image or 3-D art)
The following visual art disciplines or mediums will not be accepted: - Animation
- Short film
- Illustration
- Wearable or functional decorative art including ceramics, jewelry, wood, or glass
Fellowship Selection Criteria - Quality and skill of the artist’s work
- Creativity and uniqueness of the artist’s work
- Artist’s commitment to developing his or her work
- Impact of the award on the artists career
