Legacy Fund Honoring Community “Pillars”

Foundation providing recipients $5,000 each to grant to choice organizations

Legacy Fund, the community foundation serving Hamilton County, has selected three Hamilton County residents to receive the Legacy Fund Community Pillar Awards. This year’s award recipients are Freedom Kolb, special projects officer for Hamilton Southeastern Schools, Judge Steven R. Nation, Hamilton County Superior Court No. 1, and Brenda Myers, president and CEO of Hamilton County Tourism. Honorees will be recognized at the 10th annual Celebration of Philanthropy at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Ritz Charles in Carmel, and will each have the opportunity to award $5,000 grant to the not-for-profit of their choice. Legacy Fund is the Hamilton County affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation.

The Legacy Fund Community Pillar Awards honor individuals or corporations doing visionary work to solve pressing challenges, build opportunity and equity, and create a brighter future for Hamilton County residents in three leadership areas—college readiness and success, family success and inspiring places.

Kolb will receive the college readiness and success award in recognition of her work with Hamilton Southeastern Schools. As the special projects officer and former executive director for the school’s foundation, Kolb leads an innovative approach to student-focused learning, equity and inclusion, mental health and school counseling.

Judge Nation will receive the family success award in recognition of his work to launch and expand the Hamilton County Youth Assistance Program, a program designed to support at-risk kids and their families with preventative mentoring and tutoring programs. The program is now in all Hamilton County school districts and has significantly contributed to the reduction of justice-involved youth. Judge Nation announced his retirement this year, but will remain active in the community.

Myers and Hamilton County Tourism will receive the award in the area of inspiring places in recognition of their work to make Hamilton County a great place to live and visit, all while supporting local businesses. The organization focuses on community placemaking, an uncommon investment for county tourism organizations.

Legacy Fund will honor the award recipients at its 10th annual Celebration of Philanthropy. The recipients of the awardees’ $5,000 grants will be announced at the event.

In addition to honoring significant philanthropic leaders in the community, Celebration of Philanthropy attendees will have the opportunity to meet nearly 50 not-for-profits serving Hamilton County during cocktail hour.
