Down Syndrome Indiana

Down Syndrome Indiana's mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

About Down Syndrome Indiana

Down Syndrome Indiana (DSI) is Indiana’s leading statewide nonprofit dedicated exclusively to serving individuals with Down syndrome and their families. For more than 30 years, we have walked alongside families from the moment of diagnosis through adulthood, providing trusted resources, education, advocacy, and community connection in more than 46 counties across the state. Down syndrome is the most commonly diagnosed chromosomal condition in the United States, yet families often feel isolated and uncertain when they first receive a diagnosis. DSI exists to ensure no family navigates that journey alone. We provide immediate, compassionate outreach families, host community events and programming tailored to individuals with Down syndrome and their families, and offer access to evidence-based educational resources that reflect the unique Down syndrome profile. We are a one-stop shop for all things Down syndrome, a trusted place where families can ask questions, receive guidance through every age and stage, and find belonging within a supportive community.

Our programming spans the lifespan and spans Indiana. Early childhood initiatives focus on foundational development and early literacy, equipping parents with practical tools during critical developmental years. School-age supports include IEP guidance and support, parent education workshops, and our Pathways to Learning program focused on lifespan literacy, designed to empower families and educators with strategies that promote academic growth and classroom success. For teens and adults, we offer self-advocate programming, social connection opportunities, leadership development, and transition resources and programming that promote employment, independence, and meaningful community engagement. We additionally have more than 12 Community Groups designed to foster connection and belonging. These groups are organized geographically, by identity, and by age, ensuring individuals with Down syndrome and their families can find meaningful support within communities that reflect their lived experiences and life stage. Beyond direct services, Down Syndrome Indiana plays a vital role in statewide advocacy. Together with families, donors, and partners, we are creating an Indiana where individuals with Down syndrome can learn, work, live, and thrive.
