Indiana Bar Foundation

The Indiana Bar Foundation inspires and leads change to improve civic education and legal assistance for all Hoosiers.

About Indiana Bar Foundation

The Indiana Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on civic education programs for Hoosier students and teachers and civil legal assistance for low-income Hoosiers. Through statewide programs, partnerships, and funding, the Foundation works to strengthen civic knowledge and engagement and support a strong network of civil legal assistance throughout Indiana.

Civic education is a core part of the Foundation’s work. Each year, students and educators across Indiana participate in programs such as We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution and High School Mock Trial. We the People helps students develop a deeper understanding of the U.S. Constitution, government, and democracy before putting their knowledge into practice through simulated congressional hearings. High School Mock Trial gives students the opportunity to explore the legal system firsthand as they prepare and present a case in a courtroom setting. Both programs rely on the dedication of teachers, coaches, attorneys, judges, and community volunteers who help create meaningful educational experiences for Indiana students.

The Foundation also plays an important role in strengthening civil legal assistance throughout Indiana. We provide funding and support to organizations serving low-income Hoosiers with civil legal needs and help bring together professionals working throughout the state. Each year, the Foundation hosts Indiana’s largest conference focused on pro bono and civil legal assistance, providing professionals with opportunities to learn, collaborate, share resources, and strengthen the services available to Hoosiers in need.

To sustain and grow this work, the Foundation is seeking opportunities to build unrestricted funding. This support provides the flexibility needed to maintain strong daily operations while continuing to invest in the programs, partnerships, and people that make our statewide impact possible.

Unrestricted funds would help support essential operational needs, including staff, technology, communications, program materials, volunteer engagement, training, and other resources necessary to effectively deliver our programs and services. Most importantly, this funding would give the Foundation the flexibility to respond to emerging needs and direct resources where they can have the greatest impact.

With stronger unrestricted support, the Indiana Bar Foundation can continue building on its work in civic education and civil legal assistance while remaining responsive to the changing needs of Hoosiers and communities across the state.
