Indiana Driver Education Foundation

Indiana Driver Education Foundation (IDEF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to safe, high-quality driver education and helping Indiana residents obtain the knowledge, skills, and licensing opportunities needed to become safe, independent, and responsible drivers. IDEF was established in response to the growing financial and transportation barriers that prevent many teens and adults from participating in driver education. For individuals and families with limited resources, the cost of driver education, access to a training vehicle, transportation to lessons, and other related expenses can create significant obstacles to obtaining a driver’s license.

A driver’s license is more than a form of identification—it can be a pathway to education, employment, healthcare, family stability, and economic opportunity. IDEF works to reduce these barriers by raising funds and developing partnerships that support underserved and economically disadvantaged Indiana residents.

IDEF is seeking philanthropic, corporate, and community funding to provide driver education scholarships and related transportation services to eligible students. Funds will be used to cover the cost of classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, provide access to properly equipped training vehicles, support licensing and permit-related expenses, and address other barriers that may prevent a student from successfully completing the driver education process.

Funding will also support program expansion in communities where access to affordable driver education is limited. IDEF plans to collaborate with qualified driving schools, schools, employers, workforce development organizations, community agencies, and other partners to connect students with safe, professional driver education services. This partnership model will allow IDEF to maximize the impact of grant funding while expanding services across Indiana.

In addition to direct student scholarships, funds may be used to acquire or support the operation of driver education vehicles, including the purchase, insurance, maintenance, and safety equipment necessary to provide behind-the-wheel instruction. Reliable training vehicles are essential to increasing student capacity and ensuring that program participants have access to safe and consistent instruction.

IDEF’s funding needs are significant because demand for affordable driver education continues to grow. The Foundation is seeking investments that will allow it to serve more students, reduce the financial burden on families, expand into underserved communities, and develop sustainable partnerships throughout Indiana.
