Supporting Recovery in Kerr County: Organizations Leading Texas Flood Relief

In the wake of the devastating flash floods along the Guadalupe River, in Kerr County, Texas, local nonprofits and national organizations alike have mobilized to address immediate needs—such as shelter, food, and cleanup—while also laying the groundwork for recovery.

Below is a brief list of trusted organizations at the forefront of these efforts.

Texas Hill Country Community Foundation: This is an organization we’ve highlighted for fundholders and on our social media platforms. They’ve launched a “Kerr County Flood Relief Fund”, now nationally recognized, to take in donations for relief and rebuilding efforts. Funding is directed to nonprofits working on the ground in the affected area. Since July 4th, they have raised over 30 million dollars for this fund from donors across the US who trust their local expertise on where best to deploy emergency funding.

Arcadia Live in Kerrville: This is a nonprofit performing arts venue space nearby the affected area that has cancelled all upcoming shows and therefore revenue streams to open their doors and serve as a reunification center and shelter, physically providing refuge, emergency supplies, relief and recovery aid to families affected. In addition to accepting donations to their own nonprofit, they are also directing donations to the Texas Hill Country Community Foundation’s Flood Relief Fund.

Texans on Mission (TXM): TXM is a local faith-based organization focusing on the resilience of homeowners impacted by the floods. Their flood relief work, heavily supported by volunteers right now, focuses on removing wet flooring/carpet, sheetrock, drywall, insulation and furniture. While their work isn’t as focused on immediate shelter/aid as the others listed here, their services are filling a niche but critical need for the ability of local families and their homes to bounce back.

Mercy Chefs: This is a national nonprofit organization that specializes in providing relief wherever disaster strikes, specifically by providing free, hot, chef-prepared meals to victims, first responders, healthcare workers and volunteers. Mercy Chefs is providing free meals in intentionally accessible locations for families and workers impacted. In one example of the work they’re currently doing in Texas, Mercy Chefs worked alongside local leaders in Kerr County to bring hot meals to 200 girls who were stranded at a local summer camp.
