Three groups on Thursday announced they have awarded $100,000 to the Cicero-based Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank.
The Hamilton County Community Foundation, along with the Crosser Family Foundation and the Shelly & Cherryl Friedman Family Fund, said in a news release that the effort was designed to assist Hamilton County residents affected by November’s interruption in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits due to the longest-ever federal government shutdown. The grant aims to provide immediate relief by enabling the food bank to purchase and distribute essential food items to meet the increased demand caused by the disruption in SNAP benefits.
The release from the three groups said the emergency funding will be crucial as local families and food pantries face additional strain due to the benefit interruption.
Community members who wish to help or who need help can find information on the food bank’s website.
