About Center for Leadership Development

The Center for Leadership Development (CLD) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the advancement of African American youth in Central Indiana. Through 21 distinct programs, CLD serves students in grades 4–12, equipping them with the academic tools, leadership development, and career readiness skills necessary to overcome barriers and achieve long-term success. Our mission is rooted in the belief that developing character, promoting educational excellence, and cultivating leadership are essential to empowering youth and strengthening communities.

CLD’s programming is offered year-round, including during the academic year and summer months, to ensure consistent engagement and impact. We serve thousands of students annually, with a focus on under-resourced neighborhoods and zip codes such as 46201, 46205, 46208, 46218, 46222, 46226, and 46235. Many of students enter high school academically unprepared and disengaged, while their families often lack the tools to support their educational journey. CLD fills this gap by providing culturally responsive programming, mentorship, and guidance that leads to measurable outcomes in academic achievement, college enrollment, and career success.

Funding is needed to support general operations and sustain the delivery of our programs. Specifically, grant funds will be used to support staffing, curriculum development, student outreach, and program delivery. These resources are critical to maintaining high-quality services and expanding our reach to more students and families. With continued support, CLD will ensure that youth not only graduate from high school but also pursue post-secondary education and enter the workforce prepared to thrive. Our work creates a pipeline of future leaders who are academically strong, socially responsible, and economically self-sufficient.
