Friends of Belmont Beach

In a space that was once a segregated and polluted swimming hole, our mission is to reclaim Belmont Beach as a vital part of the Near Westside . . . sharing its history while celebrating the enduring strength of the neighborhood, advocating for it as a safe and accessible public space, and connecting people to each other and to the community through recreation, arts, and nature.

About Friends of Belmont Beach

Friends of Belmont Beach is a community-led nonprofit dedicated to transforming one of Indianapolis’ most historic riverfront spaces into a vibrant, inclusive gathering place that celebrates culture, community, and connection with nature. Located along the White River, Belmont Beach now serves as both a recreational destination and a symbol of neighborhood pride — offering residents access to green space, wellness activities, and programs that promote health, history, and environmental stewardship.

Donor funds will directly support the people and programs that make Belmont Beach thrive. Contributions will fund staff and event leaders who organize community gatherings, outdoor fitness and wellness classes, environmental education programs, and cultural celebrations that bring people of all ages together. Support will also enhance outreach and marketing to ensure more residents — particularly those from underrepresented neighborhoods — know about and can participate in these free and low-cost outdoor events. Lastly, donor support will help provide the needed supplies for programs that engage the community to thrive.

With continued donor support, Friends of Belmont Beach will expand seasonal programming, improve accessibility, and strengthen partnerships with local schools, churches, and neighborhood organizations. Together, we can create a more connected, healthy, and joyful community — one that honors the past while building a sustainable, welcoming future for all who come to the river.
