Earth Charter Indiana

Earth Charter Indiana exists to inspire and advance sustainable, just and peaceful living in Indiana by promoting the values and principles of the Earth Charter. Through education, engagement and advocacy we support schools, municipalities, and mission-aligned organizations in building local resilience.

About Earth Charter Indiana

Established in 2001, ECI has 7 full time employees, 2 of whom are bi-lingual, English and Spanish. We have one part time employee and we also employ over a dozen Resiliency Coordinator (RC) contractors, scattered around the state of Indiana, establishing an authentic statewide presence. RCs work between 20-80 hours per month, depending on their availability and pay scale.

ECI has a variety of programs that might interest prospective funders. Our Thriving Schools Challenge provides funding to schools to establish sustainability programs and actions, like creating gardens and working toward zero waste cafeterias. Our summer camps provide students, k-12, with opportunities to learn about food sustainability, clean energy, nature connection, civic advocacy and many other facets of engagement and agency. Our Youth Environmental Press Team supports high school journalists writing about the climate crisis and other environmental issues. Proyecto SOL leverages our bi-lingual staff capacity in working with school children on outdoor exploration, artistic expression, and how to care for the well-being of our planet, community, and ourselves.

Our vision is to lift youth voices in advocating for a livable future, and our belief is youth have the capacity to cut through the noise of our current stasis. In the process our youth learn how power works, how to communicate via numerous methods, and how to craft persuasive messages. We combine science, civics and the arts & humanities in our work, bringing excitement and fun to our youth, but also joy to us, the staff, board and RCs of Earth Charter Indiana. Our work sits at various intersections that connect the climate crisis to issues of poverty, racism and the need for democratic transparency.
There is no more important work than this and we invite you to accompany us on this journey.
