About Hoosier Environmental Council
Hoosier Environmental Council’s (HEC) vision is an Indiana where all residents have abundant access to clean water, natural lands, pure air, and affordable clean energy. Founded in 1983, HEC is Indiana’s largest state based environmental nonprofit with deep connections to communities, advocates, and elected officials across the state. HEC advances our mission through education, advocacy, policy and accountability through legal action. Additional funds would support several key priorities. Investment in drinking water, river, and lake protection efforts would enable expansion of research, monitoring, community outreach, and advocacy to strengthen state and local safeguards. Growth of HEC’s climate and energy programs would enable deeper work on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting clean energy adoption, and helping communities adapt to climate impacts. Resources are needed to support environmental justice and pollution reduction efforts including addressing coal ash, toxic exposures, and ensuring disproportionately burdened communities are centered in policy decisions. Funding would enhance HEC’s policy and advocacy work including stakeholder engagement, legislative work, and technical assistance to communities and partner organizations. Funds would also support communications, public education, and coalition building, expanding HEC’s capacity to inform, mobilize, and connect all Hoosiers.
