Options to support recent Indiana natural disasters

The following was shared by American Red Cross Indiana Region:

On Tuesday (August 11), a severe storm system brought heavy rain, strong winds, and tornadoes across parts of the state. In the Northwest Chapter, the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado began in Illinois and ended near Munster, Indiana, while an EF-2 tornado also originated in Illinois and ended near St. John, Indiana. In addition, heavy rainfall in the days that followed increased the risk of flooding across portions of the Greater Indianapolis and Southeast Chapters. Approximately 245,000 residents remain without power in the Indiana Region. Local hotels with 100 miles of Gary, IN are at capacity, and shelter populations are increasing accordingly. Hospitals and medical facilities are reaching capacity dealing with non-emergency needs. Flooding evacuations and water rescues continue in the Southeast part of Indiana and are projected to continue through the weekend as thunderstorms move through the region.

Disasters like these often go underfunded because they often receive little or no sustained media attention or public awareness. By making a gift to American Red Cross Emergency Response Fund, you can help people affected by disasters such as the recent storms in the Midwest, wildfires in the West, floods in the Pacific Northwest, and future disasters. Gifts to the Emergency Response Fund ensure those impacted by disasters receive equitable relief and response services which include sheltering, feeding, casework, financial assistance, relief supplies and health/mental health services.

People have been asking how they can support our neighbors impacted by the flooding in Hamilton County, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible to help.

We’ve started a flood relief fund to support local recovery efforts. 100% of donations to this fund will go directly toward supporting flood relief and recovery efforts in our community.
Every donation, no matter the amount, can make a difference as our community comes together to help our neighbors recover.

The following was shared by Henry County Community Foundation:

In partnership with the Henry County Emergency Management, the Henry County Foundation and Heart of Indiana United Way are accepting donations to help those affected by flooding. Funds raised will support relief and recovery efforts for individuals and families facing challenges in the aftermath of this event.
If donations exceed immediate needs, funds will be utilized for long-term recovery.

As communities across Wayne County recover from severe flooding, the Wayne County, Indiana, Foundation, in coordinated efforts with local communities and county stakeholders, is helping direct financial support to those impacted. Donations can be made to the Wayne County Cares Fund, established to provide support to communities affected by disasters. Donations will be distributed directly to communities impacted by flooding. Donations are being accepted online, in person at the Foundation office or by mail. If you would like your donation to support a specific community, select “designated purpose” when making your donation and indicate the community you wish to support.
