Alternatives Incorporated strives to eradicate domestic and sexual violence through education, prevention, and intervention in Central

About Alternatives Incorporated

Alternatives Incorporated is a domestic and sexual violence agency serving six counties in Central Indiana: Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Madison, Marion, and Tipton. A wide variety of services are provided to help survivors break free of the cycle of violence and plan for a peaceful future.

Our core programming includes short and long-term housing supports; mobile advocacy for survivors not seeking shelter; individualized case management; 24-hour crisis hotline response; and ongoing support and advocacy. Services are survivor-centered, trauma-informed and empowerment-based.

To further our mission, we provide community education and prevention programming opportunities to foster healthy relationships throughout the communities we serve.

Funds from our local community are used to support essential services for survivors in many ways. Below are two of our most significant funding needs.

  1. Operational support: These funds help fill in the gap left from other grant funds. It can be used to help with utility costs, repairs to our emergency shelter facility, purchasing supplies for support groups, etc. These funds allow us to continue providing essential services for survivors seeking safety and support.
  2. Flexible funding assistance: This allows us to meet survivors’ unique needs in their moment of crisis without restriction. It can include new security cameras, changing locks on their home, renting a U-Haul, a security deposit on a new apartment, etc. Whatever it is they need to feel safe.  Survivors work with an advocate to address other safety concerns and create a plan of action for achieving their self-defined goals.

Within our housing programs, we can always use in-kind donations of personal care items: shampoo and conditioner; toilet paper; textured hair-care supplies; toothpaste; laundry soap; towels; etc. Our short-term housing program is home to hundreds of survivors every year! These in-kind donations help us provide a welcoming an uplifting environment for them as they recover from the trauma they’ve experienced.

Support from our local community is essential! We are grateful for those who believe in our mission and seek to create a brighter, more peaceful future for all.
