About Humane Society for Hamilton County
The Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) was founded in 1984 to save lives, educate communities, and complete families. HSHC serves as Hamilton County’s only Humane Society and municipal shelter. We receive the hardest-to-save and most challenging-to-place cases imaginable, and not one treatable or rehabilitatable animal has been euthanized, regardless of breed, age, disability, or medical needs.
Taking in nearly 4,000 animals a year, including hundreds at risk for euthanasia in other Indiana shelters, we have consistently placed 98% of these shelter pets into loving homes since 2014. We also connect children, seniors, Hoosier veterans, and more with the healing power of pets every day.
While shelters across the state, including our own, face an overcapacity crisis, we have remained steadfast in our mission to do whatever it takes to offer a second chance to the animals in our community. Any funding would directly support our general operating expenses, including: veterinary bills, general facility maintenance, staffing & administrative costs, and the daily cost of care for our animals.
