Indiana Humanities

Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana Humanities is a statewide nonprofit offering programming and resources that connect communities through their shared experiences and culture. We support organizations and individuals that work to engage audiences with history, literature, and other humanities areas. These organizations — libraries, schools, museums, and cultural centers — foster social cohesion and appreciation of place across the state, in cities and towns of all sizes. This support of the cultural sector adds to the quality of life in communities, provides educational opportunities that foster workforce development, and makes the state an attractive place to live and work. We’re proud to help all Hoosiers understand and tell their stories.

Gifts directly support our work, which includes the free annual Proof: A Midwest Lit Fest in Indianapolis, a vibrant, all-ages community celebration of writers and readers, created in partnership with local poets, and featuring writing workshops, author panels, open mic, book fair, family activities and more; tours of the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street exhibitions, like Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, to small towns across Indiana; and Novel Conversations, a popular, free lending library for book clubs, which helps combat loneliness and social isolation, currently marking its 50^th year. We also share the power of the humanities through speakers’ bureaus, film screenings and discussions, and other initiatives that enhance well-being, and promote critical thinking and conversation.
