Indiana Statewide Independent Living Council (INSILC)

The Indiana Statewide Independent Living Council (INSILC) is a nonprofit organization that works to advance the rights, independence, and full inclusion of people with disabilities throughout Indiana. Our Governor-appointed Council, comprised primarily of people with disabilities, works alongside the state’s Centers for Independent Living to develop and implement the federally mandated State Plan for Independent Living. The State Plan outlines goals and initiatives that improve access, opportunity, and community participation for Hoosiers with disabilities.

The Council and the Centers operate under the Independent Living philosophy, which emphasizes the civil rights, self-determination, and freedom of choice that all people with disabilities have to live independently, participate fully in their communities, and direct their own lives. Contributions to INSILC support State Plan activities, including public forums that elevate the voices of people with disabilities, outreach efforts that engage individuals, families, and providers, and advocacy initiatives that address policy and systems barriers. By supporting INSILC, individuals and organizations help advance a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable Indiana for all.
