Same As U

Same As U is a human services nonprofit serving adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We offer a college-like environment where students can engage in continuing education, recreational activities, social interactions, and life skills training. Programs promote personal growth as well as foster friendships and a strong sense of community. Unfortunately, this population is often left trying to figure out next steps when high school ends. Parents describe how it feels like they have come to the edge of the cliff and not sure what to do next. The unemployment rate for this population is high and those with jobs are often underemployed. Too much time home alone and isolated puts them at risk for depression, not to mention losing some of the skills they worked so hard on throughout school. Same As U is addressing the need for meaningful programming post-high school for a very deserving population.

Every donation counts at Same As U and helps us continue our mission of helping individuals with disabilities live the life they imagine. Monthly donors, special events, one-time donations, as well as student tuition all help meet the operational needs.  Additionally, we have been able to plan for some of the upcoming expenditures with building repairs, etc. not uncommon with a 25-year-old building.

Our master plan includes expanding our parking lot, building a sports field, and ultimately building a multipurpose space that we would use as a cafeteria as well as create a space that could sell a product, producing jobs for our students. The multipurpose space will be a future campaign for Same As U. This space will allow students to learn valuable skills in business operations, helping them gain work experience and confidence. Although this is a future fundraising campaign, we need support to lay the groundwork.
