The Nature Conservancy

The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.

About The Nature Conservancy

All life on earth, whether human or wildlife, depends on a healthy, functioning environment. Clean air, healthy water, productive soils and a stable climate are critical to people, plants and animals, and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is the world’s leading conservation organization focused on these needs. With chapters in all 50 states and a presence in more than 80 countries, TNC combines the expertise of a global organization with the commitment of local staff.

TNC was founded upon the protection and stewardship of biologically rich natural land, and in Indiana we have protected 110,000 acres to date. Our work has evolved to support the needs of a changing planet and now includes goals to drive climate solutions, connect people with nature and partner with farmers to keep our soil and water resources healthy.

With your support, we are focused on the following key priorities between now and 2030:

Protecting Land and Water: We remain focused on our roots—the protection of Indiana’s exceptional natural areas. We are expanding our nature preserves and improving management so that plants and animals can not only survive but thrive. We are also upgrading trails, signage and parking, making our preserves more accessible for all. And we are improving rivers by helping communities remove outdated dams that impede the flow of water, fish and paddlers.

Providing Food and Water Sustainably: We’re working with farmers to make the shift to regenerative practices, helping them build healthy soil that retains nutrients and sediment, preventing runoff into the rivers that support our communities.

Tackling Climate Change: We are driving renewable energy deployment to brownfields, former mine lands and landfills, while ensuring that every project incorporates the 3C’s: conservation, community and climate.
