Watch: CICF and Charitable Advisors Discuss Building Stronger Nonprofits

In July, Central Indiana Community Foundation and Charitable Advisors welcomed nonprofit leaders, funders and community partners to an open house celebrating Charitable Advisors joining CICF as an in-house partner.  

At the center of the event was a 30-minute conversation between Jennifer Bartenbach, CEO of CICF, and Bryan Orander, President and Founder of Charitable Advisors. Together, they reflected on how combining CICF’s regional reach and philanthropic resources with Charitable Advisors’ trusted expertise in nonprofit leadership, employment, and operations can strengthen resources for organizations across Central Indiana. 

Their discussion also moved beyond the partnership itself to examine several issues shaping the sector. Jennifer and Bryan spoke about staff retention, leadership compensation and the growing importance of helping nonprofit employees build sustainable careers. They also discussed how boards can better understand the realities of recruiting and retaining strong leaders, particularly as executive tenures become shorter and leadership transitions become more common. 

Throughout the Q&A, they emphasizes the message that strong communities depend on strong nonprofits, and strong nonprofits require more than funding. They need informed leaders, supported staff, useful data, trusted relationships, and room to explore new ways of working.
