This artwork looks better in person than it does in the photograph. I am still working on it, so it is not totally finished, but this is the basic idea. I am just starting to set up my workflow, so I only have one piece to show at this time. Hopefully in the future, there will be more opportunity :). Thank you for your consideration. |

This semi-blind drawing of artist and social activist, Frida Kahlo, is part of a series exploring portraits of Kahlo in every style. Interestingly, this portrait more greatly resembles a portrait Kahlo created of her sister Cristina. The title. “Hermana,” which means “sister,” reflects this fact while also alluding to use of “sister” as a general term of affection and comradery. |

And Time Again is a series of digitally altered photographs that, collectively, are a reflection of the year I spent in Oaxaca. Having taken this time to learn not only about myself and the history of anti-colonial resistance in the region, but also the histories and cultural practices shared between Mexico and the Philippines (my ancestral homeland), I’ve begun to apply some of the foundational principles of Filipino cultural practices (primarily, repetition) to the images taken while I was abroad. With this in mind, this abstract series is one of several projects I am currently working on with the intention of healing old wounds, processing my personal experiences, and developing a more thorough understanding of Filipino peoples and their contributions to culture throughout the diaspora. And Time Again #8 (Agave) is a dye sublimation print on aluminum depicting a single high-flash night photo of a budding plant layered repeatedly upon itself while rotating along both vertical and horizontal axes. The image is layered to create an all-over composition that appears to be predominantly green but, when examined closely, contains an entire spectrum of color. Once printed, the object will display a high-gloss, metallic finish, bringing additional depth to both the image and its interpretation. |

And Time Again #1 (Brush) is a dye sublimation print on aluminum depicting a single photograph of the brush surrounding the cabin I was living in layered repeatedly upon itself while rotating only along its vertical axis. The act of layering amplified the colors naturally present in the source image, lending to the appearance of a dense, golden landscape at dusk. Once printed, the object will display a high-gloss, metallic finish, bringing additional depth to both the image and its interpretation. |

These tile paintings are an exploration in abstract minimalist compositions. The zen-like act of creating these tiles is spontaneous and playful, showing the mark of the maker in the handcrafted tiles, and hand painted glazes. The pink glaze can be interpreted as the essence of femininity, in contrast with the masculine gunmetal glaze, and the exposed fired terra cotta clay represents the earth. From Hunter Lab, the psychology of colors: “As the mix between red’s passion and white’s purity, pink symbolizes love, nurture and compassion. It evokes feelings of comfort, warmth and hope. Today, [the meaning of] pink is also the color of awareness and activism for specific causes, including breast cancer, women’s rights and the LGBTQ community.” |
This series is sold as a collection of 9 tiles. The grouping can be hung in different configurations – in a horizontal or vertical row, or a grid (as pictured). Each tile is mounted on a piece of wood, for dimensional look, with a saw tooth hanger. |

The subject is hardly recognizable, but the shapes, textures, and colors of the source image remain present and are amplified to maximal effect. Once printed, the object will display a high-gloss, metallic finish, bringing additional depth to both the image and its interpretation. |

March 29, 2024 at 12:50 pm | Michael Turner | https://www.etsy.com/shop/TurnerDesignStudios | https://www.cicf.org/wp-content/uploads/formidable/337/Turner_Quattro-Phi-150×150.jpg, https://www.cicf.org/wp-content/uploads/formidable/337/Quattro_Phi1-150×150.jpg, https://www.cicf.org/wp-content/uploads/formidable/337/Quattro_Phi2-150×150.jpg | 4638671454 | Turnerdesign11@gmail.com | Marion | Quattro Phi | 9″x12″-48″x60″ | Alcohol ink, oil pastel, and oil paint on canvas |
Quattro Phi is a true work of purity and simplistic genius from Turner Design Studios. Imagine the Mona Lisa and countless other great works of art in museums, but what’s underneath, what actually organized and structured that work. This concept (repeated here four times, hence ‘quattro’) is what you would see drawn on the canvas and it’s called Phi, the golden ratio! Mondrian’s work was actually carried out in this same way, he let the pure design show! Take a look at Trafalgar Square, or Broadway Boogie Woogie, or Still Life with a Ginger Pot, and you with training and understanding will be able to see ALL of his golden section intervals but even without it, you’ll discover very quickly that he’s letting you in on all the great master’s secrets by his bold showing of PURE geometry! In the first photo, the color theory is directly inspired by both my love of primary colors and by Mondrian’s countless compositions utilizing red, yellow, and blue. The second and third pictures color theory actually forms several dynamic relationships on the color wheel, such as a trapezoid, square, and triangle, cutting the edge of design within design, within design! |
Individual prices for each oil on canvas are: $650 for a 9″x12″, $900 for a 12″x16″, $1,150 for a 16″x20″, $1,500 for an 18″x24″, $2,000 for a 24″x30″, $2,500 for a 24″x36″, $3,500 for a 30″x40″, and $4,500 for a 36″x48″. Also, just a head’s up, Turner Design Studios will be changing a lot of its inventory later this year to more still lives, portraits, and landscapes utilizing the system of design seen in this piece, so the CICF should feel free to reach out to me anytime! Thanks and have a great day! |

I had a grant funded opportunity to travel throughout Japan, to research ceramics and papermaking, and the influence of Eastern art and culture on Western contemporary artists. This piece was inspired by the Japanese cultural norm to remove one’s shoes before entering a home, temple, or teahouse. In such places, “Guest Slippers” are often neatly arranged at the entrance for guests. In my work, the slippers represent spiritual and cultural rituals, and the gentle hospitality of my Japanese host families. Each pair of slippers is handcrafted porcelain clay, with satin glaze. |
Note: this frame has heavy-duty D-ring straps (like mirror hangers), or can be fitted with security hardware. |
