Statement from Central Indiana Community Foundation on the Passing of Jim Irsay

We are deeply saddened to learn of Jim Irsay’s passing. His generosity, his spirit, and his deep care for others made a lasting impact on Central Indiana.  Jim gave in a way that was honest and personal. He used his voice and his resources to shine a light on issues that too often go unseen, especially mental health and addiction. Through his Kicking the Stigma initiative, he helped bring mental health to the forefront, not just with funding but with compassion. He made it easier for people to talk about their struggles and get the support they need.  His giving didn’t stop there. From expanding youth behavioral health services to supporting addiction recovery programs and creating welcoming community spaces like the Irsay Family YMCA, Jim invested in things that made everyday life better for people in our community.

“Jim Irsay used his platform to support causes that mattered to him and to the people in this community,” said Jennifer Bartenbach, CEO of Central Indiana Community Foundation. “Because he focused on what he truly cared about, like mental health and addiction recovery, his impact was genuine and far-reaching. The support he gave made a difference, and that impact will continue to be felt across Central Indiana.”

We are grateful for everything Jim gave to this community—not just the dollars, but the heart behind them. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the good he made possible.
