New hires in areas of community investment, development and admin
Central Indiana Community Foundation hired four new team members between October and November: Diane Schussel, community investment officer for CICF; Shanna Young, community investment officer for Legacy Fund, the CICF affiliate serving Hamilton County; Shelley Raper, director of development for Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, a special interest fund of CICF; and Mackenzie Poole, coordinator for Legacy Fund.
Diane Schussel, community investment officer for CICF, works with not-for-profit organizations in the areas of community and economic development, housing, homelessness and historic preservation. She has a law degree from Emory University and taught legal writing at Concord Law School, a division of Kaplan University, prior to joining CICF. She also held community development roles in Chicago and Birmingham, Ala. Schussel is a docent with the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields and a tutor with the United Way’s ReadUp program.
Shanna Young, community investment officer for Legacy Fund, has served as Legacy Fund’s coordinator since April 2017. Previous to joining Legacy Fund, Young was part of the Resource Development team at Ivy Tech Community College and spent 11 years at the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF). There she led the NRAEF’s scholarship program, including the annual distribution of $1.1 million for more than 50 scholarships. She also implemented and managed the ProStart Support Program, which, at inception, distributed $750,000 in grants nationally for the State Restaurant Associations.
Shelley Raper, director of development for Women’s Fund, advances the organization’s mission to create options and opportunities for women and girls in Central Indiana through development and stewardship. She is an OPTIONS Alumnae member and a 2008 participant in the yearlong philanthropy program that includes monthly educational sessions and site visits in order to teach community needs as well as personal and group philanthropy.
Prior to joining Women’s Fund, Shelley served as the director of business development at Markey’s Rental & Staging for nine years. She also spent 13 years in the sports industry specializing in marketing, sponsorships, sales and event, operations and volunteer management. Raper holds a bachelor’s degree in management and organizations from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. Currently, she serves on the Kelley School of Business Alumni Association’s board of directors.
Mackenzie Poole, Legacy Fund coordinator, worked for CICF as an intern in 2015 and most recently worked for Hancock County Community Foundation. Poole earned her bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management from Indiana University Bloomington in 2016.
