The Indianapolis Foundation Awards Nearly $1 Million in Grants to Marion County Not-for-Profit Organizations

Board of directors for The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation, approved and awarded $945,000 for 23 programs and projects in September. This is the foundation’s third grant round for 2017.

Among the 23 programs that received funding are:

  • Beacon of Hope Center for Women Inc. ($30,000)—For expansion of the Life Skills and Employment Assistance program to help victims of domestic violence become self-sufficient.
  • Mozel Sanders Foundation Inc. ($15,000)—To provide meals at the foundation’s annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner which serves 35,000 hot meals on Thanksgiving to residents, many of whom are low-income seniors.
  • Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic ($40,000)—The Immigrant Justice program offers legal advice, individualized legal advocacy and group education to 580 immigrant neighbors throughout Central Indiana.
  • The daVinci Pursuit Inc. ($25,000)—For the installation of 10 public art projects along the waterways identified by Reconnecting to Our Waterways (ROW) and to support the goals of ROW by enriching the livability of Indianapolis and the well-being of residents.

Funding for The Indianapolis Foundation’s grants is made possible by the unrestricted Endowment for Indianapolis, created and contributed to by philanthropically minded donors for more than a century. Supplemental funding is made possible by five field of interest funds: the Christmas Fund, F.R. Hensel Fund for Fine Arts, Music and Education, James Proctor Fund for Aged Men and Women, Pauline K. Stein Fund and The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund.
