The Indianapolis Foundation Launches the Movement of 10,000 Digital Platform

The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of CICF, today introduced The Movement of 10,000 (MVMT10K), a digital platform with the purpose to inform, inspire and ignite equitable change and justice for Indianapolis and the larger Central Indiana community.

MVMT10K—available as both a mobile app and online—invites users to advance their journeys toward racial equity through learnings and collective action. Features of the platform include access to learning pathways with articles, videos and podcasts that address topics such as:

  • The origins and history of how racism is embedded in our systems—including our legal, education and healthcare systems—and what systemic racism looks like today
  • Addressing uncomfortable emotions and activating your power for change
  • Understanding and navigating the intersection of race and other identities
  • The commitment to a lifelong practice of works of equity

“If we’re really going to cultivate an inclusive and equitable community, we have to learn about, address and dismantle the American systems of power that were created to disadvantage people of color,”

—Pamela Ross, vice president of community leadership and equitable initiatives at The Indianapolis Foundation.

The concept of MVMT10k was announced back at CICF’s 2020 Inclusive City event at the Madam C.J. Walker Theatre. The platform came to fruition with several years of intentional conversations and learnings with a diverse team. The Indianapolis Foundation also made an intentional focus on creating the platform with Haystack, a local, certified minority-owned business that provides software solutions for websites and web-based or mobile applications.

“This isn’t us saying we have all the answers or that we are experts in this space,” said Brian Payne, president & CEO of CICF and president of The Indianapolis Foundation. “But this is us collectively coming together, taking actionable steps to become the most anti-racist community across the country and inviting our community to join us in our journey.”

Additional features, such as social elements to connect users as well, as Works of Equity, will be launched in 2023. The ultimate outcome of the platform is for at least 10,000 people to commit to a life’s practice of works of equity and building authentic relationships.
