Charitable Advising from a Distance

The silver lining to these times of uncertainty, fear and isolation is the collective groundswell toward generosity. We are seeing a tremendous amount of charitable giving through community-based relief funds as well as specific not-for-profits. You can be a terrific resource to your clients as to how to be helpful in the midst of this crisis.

As we announced last fall, CICF has no minimum requirement to open a donor-advised fund, and for funds started with less than $25,000, there is now no administrative fee.

As your philanthropic advising partner, we can help you advise your clients as to how they can be most effective with their charitable giving, especially in this climate. Though our physical locations are closed, CICF remains able to open charitable funds from a distance, so your clients can start making an impact within days, not weeks or months. As we announced last fall, CICF has no minimum requirement to open a donor-advised fund, and for funds started with less than $25,000, there is now no administrative fee.

Encourage your clients to request more information about donor-advised funds at CICF here or fill out an application to get started with a donor-advised fund. If they’re not tech-savvy or comfortable filling out information online, you or your clients can contact Sarah Weaver, senior gift planning advisor, directly on her cell phone at 615.513.3897 or at SarahW@cicf.org.

Do you have clients who have a commercial donor-advised fund but would prefer to invest their charitable assets with their local community foundation? Just as we can open new funds remotely, we can also transfer existing donor-advised funds at other institutions to CICF – and we frequently do! CICF not only offers fees competitive with commercial donor-advised fund providers but also provides local expertise, access to CICF’s wealth of community knowledge and the peace of mind knowing that all administrative fees paid, if any, go to making Central Indiana a better, more beautiful, more equitable place to live, work and play. And of course, we are always happy to partner with you to invest a new or existing donor-advised fund.

Contact Mary Stanley, senior director and legal counsel for charitable gift planning, directly on her cell phone at 317.431.4417 or MaryS@cicf.org to find out just how easy it is to move an existing donor-advised fund to CICF.
