Hamilton County Community Foundation’s commitment to you, to our community and to racial equity

Tom Kilian
—a message from Thomas J. Kilian, Jr., president of Hamilton County Community Foundation

To the residents and neighbors of Hamilton County,

Silence is not the answer. To be silent is to be complicit.

To our Black and Brown neighbors, and other underappreciated residents of Hamilton County, we see you, we hear you, and we are with you. We stand in absolute opposition to senseless violence including the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police. While recent events throughout this country have highlighted extreme racial injustice, we must acknowledge the system of inequity that has plagued our communities for far too long. As your community foundation, we pledge to mobilize people, ideas and investments to make this a community where all individuals have equitable opportunity to reach their full potential—no matter place, race or identity. That is our mission, and we do not take that pledge lightly.

ARE YOU READY TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVE?

Hamilton County Community Foundation—along with our partners at Central Indiana Community Foundation and The Indianapolis Foundation—have committed our time, talents and resources to convene, educate and fund partners willing to confront the inequities in our communities. Willing to seek the truth of our past, to guide our path forward. This work will not be easy. We must first look internally at our own policies and practices. We must not be silent. We must find partners who are willing and positioned to help us become an equitable community.

To our Black and Brown neighbors, and other underappreciated residents of Hamilton County, we see you, we hear you, and we are with you. To the leadership of Hamilton County, don’t be silent—join us.

In Peace,
