Six Central Indiana Professionals Are Tapped for Mosaic Fellowships

The mosaic Program aims to make not-for-profit boards more equitable

The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation, and Leadership Indianapolis have announced recipients of the Mosaic Fellowship. 

The Mosaic Fellowship is an evolution of The Indianapolis Foundation Fellowship, launched in 2016 in honor of the foundation’s centennial. Mosaic is designed to increase diversity on Indianapolis boards of directors so that they look and work differently. By providing support to both individuals and organizations, Mosaic aims to shift power, elevate new voices and grow the perspectives included on not-for-profit boards throughout our community. 

Six Fellows will serve on five local not-for-profit boards of directors:  

  • LaKenya Chancey, client service associate for Ronald Blue Trust, will serve on the board for Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity. 
  • Iliana Enriquezprogram facilitator-coordinator and Spanish specialist for Peace Learning Center, will serve on the board for Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center. 
  • Monika Mala, chief operating officer for Foster Success, will serve on the board for Arts Council of Indianapolis. 
  • Christen Peterson, out-of-school time specialist for the Indiana Department of Education, will serve on the board for React (formerly Young Actors Theatre). 
  • Dr. Shanniese Rice, senior applications analyst for Community Health Network, will serve on the board for Domestic Violence Network. 
  • Carlie Turner, project coordinator for the Indiana Public Policy Institute at IUPUI, will serve on the board for Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center. 

Fellows will receive financial resources to fulfill board-giving requirements. They will also participate in cohort trainings designed to support them as they hone foundational leadership skills, build social capital, and use their gifts and power on Indianapolis boards. The not-for-profits participating in the program are actively working to address diversity, equity and inclusion issues at the board level; they have committed to demonstrating meaningful work and changes to advance equity in their board operation, recruitment, and retention.
